The Franklin Arts & Cultural Centre was established to develop community art opportunities in the District. The Centre provides a range of community arts classes and programmes including exhibitions, performances, children's holiday programme and other cultural community events. The Centre has a variety of rooms available for hire and is a popular meeting place for many of Franklin's community groups. Fees should not go up in one day by 100%. Artists who are prepared to pay $80 in advance, should not have to sit in a small room with hot heaters on for 2 hours, unable to move because the space is so squashed. Artists should be able to feel welcome, not to be "bled" for money. Staff should be trained to deal with art, to assess art and they should have studied formal Art. Most of all, staff should not shout across the room when artists are busy painting. The community should not be made uncomfortable by the staff. The fees for formal art lecturer who teaches art, should be reasonable, not so that the poor lecturer is out of pocket when he or she gives art lessons. It is better if the spaces are occupied every hour of the day and filled with students, than be empty without any art teachers because the rooms are too expensive. It is better to start with low fees and build up the students. It could be a wonderful art centre, but unfortunately it ran down the last few months of 2011; it would not have, if the public and the artists were treated with respect. No business can survive with unfriendly staff.
