In response to Anita Olivers review, occasionally customers book bridal appointments by phone and turn up in the event wear store for their bridal appointment looking a little confused about the fact that there doesn't appear to be any bridal gowns. At this point clients are politely, I would hope, redirected to our Bridal store next door. It is most unfortunate that the "fish tail" style that your niece had her heart set on was in stock but not in her size. Apparently it was explained that we can order in any size (up to a 26) but for some reason your niece was under the impression we only carried small sizes and felt her size was an issue. We cater to all sizes and budgets and styles and as explained to the Bride's mum dress people from all over New Zealand for their special events and the most important day of their lives their wedding. We sincerely apologize to yourself your niece and the other members of your bridal party for any perceived indifference as it was certainly not intended. Last weekend I had the privilege of accompanying my niece, her Mum and her 2 sisters to what was supposed to be an exciting day out wedding dress shopping. Appointments made we set off. - The first appointment was at Astral Bridal. The staff at Astral were friendly, helpful, fun, welcoming and made our bride feel beautiful. They were genuinely excited as we got closer to 'the dress'. Our second appointment was at Modes in New Market. We arrived a little early so entered the main store first thinking perhaps we could look at Mother of the Bride attire. It was a very unwelcoming experience, a sales person told us we were in the wrong place. We explained we were early and would like to look at the range in store. A second staff member approached us also giving directions to the bridal area. We waited outside clearly we were not welcome. Our customer experience got worse when we went to the wedding dress area. The shopping experience at Modes was one of the worst shopping experiences I have ever had. The staff were cold, unhelpful and the attendant was rude to our bride which resulted in her feeling frumpy and worried about how she would look on her wedding day. This was such a sharp contrast to our experience at Astral Bridal. To ensure we finished the day on a happy note we returned to Astral Bridal that afternoon and with no 2nd appointment booked we were again given the best customer experience. It is no surprise they also got the sale of a very expensive gown to one very happy bride to be. Take a leaf out of their book Modes it was very disappointing.

While this store has lovely clothes the staff were not friendly and we certainly didn't feel welcome. Wont be shopping there again.

As an employee of Modes I would like to say on behalf of the staff and owner of the shop, that Marti's comment is most inappropriate and inaccurate. None of our product is made in sweatshops, all of our manufacturers have been in the industry for many years and are most reputable- the fact that you would make such an uneducated and offensive comment is frankly insulting. Modes has the most extensive collection of Mother of the Bride product in New Zealand, we stock from sizes 6 through 26 and a selection of our gowns are made to order, so to state there is very little under a size 12 is simply ridiculous. We feel aggrieved that this woman did not take the time to express her concern to us personally, rather taking to the internet to slander us in a public forum. Marti if you have any further issues you would like to raise with us please contact us directly.

Apart from the annoying discovery that this store has very few outfits under size 12 (mother-of-the-bride), I was alarmed to discover that three of their products had scizzor nicks in the pleats (on the outside and visible)! A jacket had very poorly tailored collar with threads dangling from the point of the collar. It seems that the clothing at this store, although expensive, has been thrown together in some overseas sweatshop.

The staff at this shop are awful. They are rude and obnoxious. I went to look at dresses for my bridesmaids. It was the first shop I visited and so all I wanted to start with was to get an idea of colours and styles. One of my bridesmaids is a bigger sized girl and the designer? Man was really rude about her. Basically told us to go away as nothing would fit. He couldn't understand we just wanted to look. Apparently that wasn't acceptable. I will never go back to this shop as this was the second time I have been treated poorly by staff. My suggestions? Get an entirely new staff otherwise shoppers beware.

Modes has been in business for 30 years and is known for it's exceptional service and selection. The blue beaded dress was returned covered in makeup and tanning dye. The manufacturer was imediately contacted to make sure there was no fault with this garment. The Australian company confirmed that they had many repeats and no returns in this style. They checked the beading deisgn and confirmed that it is appropriate. Modes spent 3 hours repairing the worn garment at Modes cost, not the client. This was done imediately.

Their after sales service is pathetic and the manager has no people skills. $500 dollar dress was falling apart before it was worn and was fixed at owners expense.First time warn fell apart more so taken back without washing so it didnt totaly disintergrate.Manager had it fixed but said they wont fix it again.Manufacturer in Australia said it should have been sent back to them. Manager consistently talks over you and is very grumpy person to deal with. We wont be shopping there again
