The high quality tables and chairs will give you a hint as to what the food will be like - superb! Always imaginative and different, how often have you seen hare or rabbit on the menu? Ingredients are always fresh and where possible local. My partner and I eat at Vagionis as often as we can and there is always something new to try on the blackboard menu. A younger member of the family reliably informs me the pizzas are to die for. To top it off, the staff are fun and friendly. As any traveller will tell you, the best place to eat is where the locals do.

Vangionis is owned and run by Akaroa local Steve Bradley. In his restaurant Steve recreates the spectacuarly delicious cuisine he sampled whilst travelling around Europe.
Vangionis serves French and Italian-style fare, pizza and tapas and is well known in the area for is chorizo sausage.
Vangionis is open seven days a week from 5pm.
Pizzas range in price from $14 to $28.
Vangionis is fully licensed and has a blackboard menu which changes daily.

14th July 2010 This was just fantastic. No booking on a cold Sunday night,and we struck it lucky with a great table and the best food and service in Akaroa. We had tried a few local places and this one takes our pick. The best spaghetti bolognaise my partner has tasted (apart from mine of course!)

14th May 2007 We live in Akaroa and dine out at least 3 nights a week with 2 of those at Vangioni's . . . a tapas bar with an extensive menu and supberbly cooked fresh food. My favourite (at the moment) is the Fromage de Chevre - a cheese-lovers delight, walnut coated, oven baked white cheese resting on the freshest crisp greens with one of the chef's drizzled dressings !! Hard to go past the duck too - then there's the pizza's . . . It's refreshing to find some different wines offered on the drinks menu with one of the most georgous desert wines I've ever tasted - true nectar.
The ambience is warm in terracotta colours and the music is just the right volume. Lighting is dimmed to enhance the glow of natural wood which has been used to compliment the heritage building that houses Vangioni's.
Service is friendly and efficient and with the kitchen being open to public view, you'll soon be ordering one of those impressive desert flambe's.
