12th January 2012 Id have to say I've had better service from McDonalds, staff were absolutely unhelpful and just plain rude. Overheard them making awful comments about other customers who were still dining in the restaurant.
Took 20 minutes to be given our drinks.
I will never ever go back there again. Worst service I have ever experienced.

6th January 2011 Fanastic Meal, nice clean decor, & great Table service...enough said.
This place was awesome after suffering many overseas restaurant nightmares. Paris, London, New York and San Francisco to name a few places.

3rd January 2011 We dined at this restaurant based on the previous review. Our experience was the polar opposite. The service was not bad... it was non existent. It was quite honestly the worst dining experience I have ever had the displeasure to sit through. The staff (when occasionally sighted) were clueless. Strolling around as if in a daze, walking around with undelivered food... and no idea which table to take it to. When they finally reached their destination they delivered the food (pizza) with no plates or cutlery. We had to stand outside the kitchen ourselves, ask for plates etc... then wait 10 minutes while the pulled them out of the dishwasher. The reason for this was very obvious, as the clueless waitstaff never cleared a table in the two hours we were there. There was no table service. We had to fetch everything ourselves. The only reason we stuck around was as we had to pay up front for the meal and drinks... I was still tempted to leave. A trip to the bathroom revealed no toilet paper or even soap. A beer delivered to our table was well past it's best before date. I cannot say a single good thing about this establishment. It should only be visited from the comfort of your couch while watching it on "Kitchen Nightmares".

1st September 2010 I have been going to Mangawhai Heads every summer for the past 7 years and we always make an effort to go to the Smashed Pipi atleast once or twice a week. The food is always excellent - fresh and hot. The service is good - always friendly. Sometimes there can be a wait though. There is a choice of eating in the building or outside. The outside area is lovely in the sunshine - they provide shade too. There is a great shop next to it full of kiwi products. Well worth visiting after a meal. This restaurant is very kid friendly. The best restaurant in Mangawhai in my opinion.
