2nd September 2010 My family and I first ate here a couple of months ago. The food was by far the best any of us had tasted in New Plymouth and the service was very helpful and friendly. We now eat here on a regular basis and will continue to do so for quite some time.
26th January 2012 We had a fantastic experience. The food was exquisite, lovely vintage setting, prompt and efficient staff and very professional. Could have been a little warmer and friendlier as the professionalism was almost cold but overall top notch experience!

19th August 2011 Recenty moved from Auckland and this restaurant was highly recommended.
Sadly we were very let down.
Our booking was forgotten so we had to wait for a table to free up.
I had the soup to start which was very bland, I let the waitress know and all she could say was "yes I have heard that the last few nights" nothing was done about it and I still had to pay for it even though I had only a few spoon fulls.
The steak I ordered medium-rare came out closer to rubber. It was replaced but still closer to well-done but did not have time to wait for another meal.
To wash it down I had a flat white, which looked more like instant coffee.
Above average cost for below average food.
Poor food and coffee, coupled with poor service left me leaving hungry and feeling ripped off.
Will not be eating here again when there are far better restaurants around New Plymouth.

25th August 2010 We visited The Garlic Press earlier this year with my brother and his partner from Wellington. The food and service were absolutely the best we have encountered in New Plymouth. The food especially was the tastiest and very well presented. The service too was friendly but not "in your face". Highly recommended - especially the duck!
