Day trips ( 45 minutes to two hours by car ) are possible to Wai-O-Tapu and Waimungu thermal valleys, Waitomo Caves, Hawkes Bay to view the Art Deco city of Napier, the wine region and Cape Kidnappers International Golf Course and the nearby gannet colony, Tongariro National Park for skiing, hiking and Rotorua ( one hour 15 minutes away )
