Our story is a simple one.
We wanted to cover our furniture at home in organic cotton fabric.
We couldn’t find any in New Zealand.
We imported some from the US.
It was so good all our friends wanted us to get them some.
Ding! An eco-friendly light-bulb went on in our heads. Here was a way to combine our strong environmental beliefs with the need to make a living.
Thus a business was born….good yarn.
Now please don’t think we’re hemp-poncho wearing tofu-knitters.
We believe that doing the right thing needn’t involve too much self-sacrifice, and that there’s no reason why you can’t have hip, radical, and innovative designs on a product that’s still 100% organic.
At good yarn we might be stylish, but we’re also pretty staunch. We make sure that from the seed in the field to the covering on your couch, everything is sustainable and natural. That means no synthetic pesticides or herbicides, no preservatives, no additives, no genetic modification, and no irradiation.
All the dyes we use are water-based and natural fibre reactive.
As a result of our stringent quality control the cotton textiles we supply are the only ones available in New Zealand that are USDA Organic Certified and meet all the Global Organic Textile Standards.
