24th July 2010 Go to China for 35 bucks! I really did not get this place for quite some time. I was totally baffled when wife and friends kept insisting on going to this place. No joke, we have been to this place six times in the last 3 months, and even as I write this we will be going again tonight! Yummy Palace is hot, steamy, cramped (for my 6ft frame) the smell goes deep into your clothes, the chilli spice constantly gets up your nose, and the menu - if you do not read Chinese you might have more luck blindfolded. And if that's not enough - you have to cook your own food! Welcome to Hot Pot - DIY Sichuan style dining. Now, along with the rest of the Auckland Chinese community, I can appreciate Yummy Palace's enormous selection of dishes and ingredients (including very nice desserts that you have before the main meal?). This all comes at AMAZING value, hence the place is always packed (what recession?) and they 'say' you must finish eating within one and a half hours.
Located a few doors down from the big BP in Newmarket on Crowhurst Street, Yummy Palace is nothing short of adventurous!
