14th December 2010 Tay Street is a great spot to meet friends or colleagues - situated across the road from Mt Maunganui beach, and their food is always uncompromisingly fresh and delicious with an all day menu to please a really wide range of palates. The indoor and outdoor seating is pleasant and the service is fantastic.

1st August 2011 I will never ever go to Tay street Cafe again. Most of staff were fine and helpful except for the lady owner who was rude and embarassed my partner and I in front of every one who were outside trying to enjoy their lunch. We had noticed a bunch of ladies drinking wine and smoking at the front door of the cafe.We were situated at the table closest to the road.So i asked for an ash tray and was given one with no problems. The so called lady owner yelled out and told us to move onto the footpath.I understand smoking is not a nice thing to have around when eating food and would never consider smoking there if it wasn't for the other people smoking. We heard another guest ask a different waitress if it is a smoke free area and she said yes. Then I had burnt fish way over cooked but that wasnt the problem it was the lady owner.I have never been so disgusted in her manner and the way she looked down at us.Its a shame because you just do not know who people are in the industry and she should not be allowed in this industry. My partner had to beg me not to make a scene so I held back and let it go.So my partner went to pay and the guy who took the payment just stood there and said the price no manners what so ever.I will be telling everyone I know not to go to Tay street Cafe.Just because some people are not dressed glamorous or dressed as they are filthy rich doesn't mean they are not at the top.

10th September 2010 Had a really delicious lunch here but it was negated by the fact the staff were fairly rude and unwelcoming. Would think twice before returning but may try again in the hope it was just an off day as the food was decent.
