17th February 2011 It is from a point of extreme dissatisfaction I write this review of Atlas Movers (also a subcontractor to Auckland Movers). The move that this company were supposed to be helping my flatmate and I move was distressful and expensive and by far the worst move either of us had experienced.
To start with, the movers showed up 3.5 hours late. If that weren't enough, the moving men were exhausted after completing their "worst job ever" that morning. They couldn't cope with the steps we had at one end of the move, needed rest stops all the time and we had to shift boxes with them as it was taking an incredibly long time.
Finally we got everything in the truck and moved 35 mins away. Only to find that the truck couldn't make it up the driveway (apparently this had been a problem that morning too). The driver tried going up backwards but the handbrake wouldn't hold. We have a steep but paved driveway with a flat bit at the end and after a couple of attempts the driver determined we had to walk everything up. By this time it's dark and the light in the truck wasn't working. To save time we only asked the movers to move the heavy items into the house (2 beds, a washing machine and a fridge) and leave the boxes in the garage.
To move a small two bedroom house lot took 6 and 1/4 hours. We had been quoted 2-3! We had run out of money for the move by this point so only paid them for four hours and the call out charge. We also provided the movers with some pizza as they hadn't eaten all day.
The next day the owner (Paul) rang up to find out about the rest of the money and I explained to him our dissatisfaction, the circumstances of the move etc and asked him to rethink the price as his movers hadn't really done their job, his truck was not up to snuff and my flatmate and I had to help the entire time anyway. He didn't waver on his price ($213 was outstanding) and wasn't prepared to see my points, or redress the bad service we got. He didn't even apologise for a bad job or the distress he caused my flatmate and I. He accepted no blame whatsoever and instead criticised the quoting process of Auckland Movers for a wrong quote. A week later he threatened me with debt collectors before even providing his bank account details!
Paul could have avoided this bad review by apologising for his terrible service and negotiating with me on the remaining money outstanding. That he threatened me with debt collectors and criticised the hand that feeds him smacks of a cowboy who will, given a chance, provide the same bad service to you.
