Firstly, the mouth-watering menu offers a range of beef, chicken, vegetarian and specialty burgers unlike anything else offered locally " so tantalising that choosing is almost impossible, but not quite, especially when you know you can go back time after time and try them all!
Of course, these are but five from a burger menu of more 24 not to mention other scrumptious meal options, a range of divine French pastries, slices and sweets, salads and soups, sandwiches and counter food to go.
You'll also find there Keri Keri organic herbal teas and the famous Allpress espresso coffee.
What's more, entrepreneurial owners Ben David and Voni Davidson aim to give customers homemade food that is as good for them as it tastes which means zero preservatives, nil flavour enhancers, ethically sourced ingredients and, to the best of their knowledge, GM-free. Where possible we buy organic and we offer gluten-free options too, says Voni.
We don't do caged animals so it's also free range for the cafe. Ben and Voni who come from respective backgrounds in I.T. and apparel design, admit that Kitchenette has been an idea in waiting for some time.
We come from a family who loves food and cooking and where our mixed Moroccan/Jewish heritage has given vent to plenty of flavour exploration, says Ben who came to New Zealand from Israel. For me it is so exciting to see customers coming almost daily to eat our food and many are telling us that this area needed a place just like ours for quite some time. We love food that is tastefully spicy but not necessarily hot and more than that, we love food that is down to earth, unpretentious yet tastes fantastic. That is why most of our food and sauces are made in our kitchenette so that we know what's in our aioli or tartar sauce for example.
Voni and I have long wanted to create a place that delivers good vibes with really nice background music but most of all delivers really good food (from the Howick Times, October 2010)
