When I went along to my first Toastmasters meeting, I thought it'd be a bunch of corporate guys in suits and fancy ties standing around discussing share prices or something. I was glad to find that all of the other club members were perfectly normal (well, mostly normal) friendly people.

Toastmasters offers you plenty of chances to get up in front of the group and practise your speaking and leadership skills. Everybody is very encouraging and understanding and there's plenty of flexibility for you to take on roles and assignments to suit your comfort level.
