I first came across Stu after he posted a sensible, articulate and useful comment on the local community page - all about stormwater. We'd had a flooding on the 'Flood Friday' - really significant and quite upsetting. Stu came round over the weekend, gave us a detailed summary and outlined what he would do. Of all the things he did, giving me confidence and hope was a major win. He did everything he said he would do - plus some. He dug holes, cut down trees, removed roots and rebuilt my drainage system. He arrived on the day he said he would, at the time he had told me. He kept me up to date on progress and reduced costs wherever he could - when he found something unexpected he let me know about it so I had a choice, and gave me reasonable quotes on the additional work. He came back to check on his own work and gave further guidance on how to keep things under control. I would give him more than five stars if I could - if only because he really worked like a man possessed. So good I can forgive him for being a football fan.....

Like many others, we were in despair following the January 2023 floods across Auckland. The problems seemed insurmountable, but all that changed as soon as we asked Stu to assess our position. He is a great tradesman with a wealth of experience who knows his craft inside out. Stu provided a clear plan on how to address our problems. He advised on the best solution(s), and if there is a way to save a client unnecessary expense he will provide those options. Honest, trustworthy, reliable, experienced, punctual, great communications - all the attributes we found in Stu, which come together in the high standard of work and advice that he provided. Stu came round to look at a potential job this morning. After carefully analysing our issue, he suggested we didn't actually need a drain-layer to fix this issue, and suggested an alternative. What impressed me about this is he could have done the job and made a few bucks - but he knew it wasn't in my best interests. I thought that showed a tradesman with some real integrity. A good bloke and would recommend to all based on the integrity he just showed at our place.

We had a storm drain grate that had broken in half and was obviously a bit of a hazard. Contacted Stu and he came around the same day to have a look, was able to source a new grate and install it. Very professional and courteous would highly recommend. Cheers Stu

We live on a rural property where our main drainage pipe from the house to our septic tanks had broken- which meant we couldn't use our toilets, sinks, showers, washing machine and dishwasher = a total nightmare. Stu answered a late night text, and came around the following day on a Sunday to assess. He prioritised our urgent situation and had it all fixed and running within the following 2 days. Total lifesaver and reliable. Thank you so much Stu

We were very pleased with the work Stu did for us. We had a leaking sewer pipe and he answered our late night call and was here first thing the next morning. After assessing the situation he got a camera and water blaster here quickly and from that worked out the section that needed replacing and came up with a plan. The next day he started digging but soon worked out the location of the connection required an amended plan. Over the next few days he fixed the problem with virtually no disruption to our household and organised the parts and skip bin. He left the area clean and tidy and was friendly and professional. The final price was very reasonable and I would highly recommend Stu.

I am President of the North Shore Group of Riding for the Disabled. We had a small-ish sinkhole appear suddenly in one of our trackways at our premises in Stillwater and we needed it assessed and quickly repaired as it was a hazard for our disabled riders. I contacted Stu after hours and expected to have to leave a message, but he picked up the call and reacted quickly to our situation, firstly by having the damage assessed with a camera and water dye test, then swiftly set up a day to come along with a digger to effect the repairs. The repair was all completed within one working day and we couldn't be happier with his level of customer service and, especially, his ability to get the job done quickly and effectively. Highly recommended!

We engaged Stu Gray Drainlayer to investigate the water pooling we had noticed in the garden. Stu responded within an hour and arranged a site visit for the same day, turning up when promised. He identified the problem as a failed pipe join caused by tree roots, and had the problem remediated within a few days, while liaising with the council and managing one other sub-contractor. He was friendly and professional to deal with, and we're very pleased with the outcome. We would have no hesitation in recommending Stu as a top quality drainage expert, and tradesperson

I found Stu online and arranged a time for a site visit. Had the end of a block wall nova pipe dumping water in heavy rain adjacent a room making the wall bottom plate wet. Stu offered excellent advice on how to resolve the problem. He provided me with practical down to earth options on how to resolve, one at a cost I was comfortable with. Excellent communications provided as work progressed. Very happy with the completed job. Thanks Stu.

I phoned Stu to get him to quote on a tricky drainage job at my home. He took the time to stop driving and sit and talk and give me some advice which has saved me thousands of dollars doing work which would not have solved my problem. I so appreciated his time when he had nothing to gain from it - in fact he turned away the job, saying he wasn't the right person for it. (I needed a Waterproofing Specialist who covers sealants as well as drains - drains won't fix it.) He was straight shooting, kind and helpful and on the basis of our conversation I would have no hesitation in recommending him as an excellent man to give sound advice and get things done..

Stu is great to deal with, he's prompt, honest, and will make any and all effort to NOT inconvenience the customer. He's got a great sense of humor, and will always arrive and leave with a smile. He's very knowledgeable, and passionate about his job so it's completed right first time. He always kept us updated so we knew what was happening and when. He always removed any materials and rubbish, leaving the area in a clean state. Will definitely use his services in the future and will always recommend him to others without hesitation. I really appreciated the way he was able to effortlessly liaise with Watercare for me and get the result we were after. It was also great that I was able to work with Stu on the repair to keep the cost to me down and I know not all drainlayers would allow this. I highly recommend Stu to anyone needing a drainlayer. Stu is fantastic - he's worked on jobs at our property twice now, including a callout for a cracked pipe and a major job redoing our stormwater system. If we need any more drains work done we will definitely be calling him. The work is always done quickly and professionally and he turns up when he says he will. A lovely friendly easy guy to have around too, which is important I think! He's worked for my parents too and they highly recommend him.

Just after the New Year and whilst most of us are on holiday we detected a damaged sewer line in our property. Tried few telephone calls to get a Drain repair man and when called Stu he straightaway adviced me that he will be on site same day afternoon and will let us know options. In few hours time I received a call from Stu that he has already visited our residence and also repaired that damage. We are very happy and staisfied with his job and next time we will not be hunting for a drain repair man but will call Stu straight away. Thanks Stu for the promptness and neat work. We are in the process of renovating so were looking at the work outside including a broken downpipe and blocked drain flowing into the main drain at the back of the section. Looked up drainlayers and found Stu, and after reading all the positive reviews contacted him to come around to look at the job to see what it would entail and cost. He arrived just after lunch and we went through the issues. His experienced opinion was really helpful and informative pointing to another way around the problem involving plumbing. It is very rare these days for someone to make suggestions that do them out of work. No call out fee, only a pleasant and accommodating nature. Many thanks. I know who to use or recommend in the future. Peter

We had a complex (to us anyway) drainage problem and ended up getting advice from other drainage plumbers as well, but Stu's was the simplest, least expensive and best solution. I am happy to recommend Stu - he is straightforward, patient and generous with his advice.

Excellent find on Google...Stu arrived within half an hour of me calling him.. Helpful, pleasant friendly and capable, the job that we made of driving a spike thorough our sewer pipe was fixed within a morning. Thanks Stu. It is so good to find a tradesman that is true to his word..

We found Stu on the internet. He was phoned that day and he responded quickly by meeting the same for a quote. However the work required was not for a drain layer. He recommended the services that would be needed. He was very helpful and professional. I was very thankful. Justine

With a drain problem that was becoming worse, I phoned Stu after finding him on the internet. He came the next day, diagnosed the problem and started work almost immediately. I found Stu reliable, considerate and honest, and I appreciated his involving me in the decision-making as the job progressed. With a drain problem that was becoming worse, I phoned Stu after finding him on the internet. He came the next day, diagnosed the problem and started work almost immediately. I found Stu reliable, considerate and honest, and I appreciated his involving me in the decision-making as the job progressed. Stu responded to my email query promptly and was around at my place the following morning to repair a storm water drain that I'd put a pick axe through :) Great service, and great communication. Highly recommended.

Recently arranged with Stu to do a reasonably major drainage job involving new stormwater drainage from an old house, together with new drainage for a relocated garage. Stu arranged for a digger, plumber and his own input to ensure that the job was successfully completed on time and at a reasonable cost. I found him excellent to deal with, gives useful advice, and is a good guy. Chris.

I had a long standing problem with heavy rainfall running down our shared driveway and through the carport and into the decked back garden. Stu liased with a landscaping company and organised the necessary drainage to solve the problem in a quick and efficient fashion. I would thoroughly recommend him !! Ian, Birkdale.

We had a path collapsing and Stu quickly guessed the problem. Very helpful and dug it all up replacing both storm water drains which were causing the subsidence and also rectified a potential sewerage problem. Always kept me informed on what was going on during the process and is a very hard worker - all the materials and skip etc. came when he said - all in all did a very good job at a fair price and I would have no hesitation in using him again and of course recommending him.

Stu was recommended by our builder ( Houseworks Ltd) to install the new drainage for our 2 bedroom home and to rearrange existing drainpipes. He was especially helpful when we had further existing drainage problems due to storm damage. Supervised hired labour we employed to assist in the drainage work. Always positive, cheerful and a proffesional. Would recommend him to anyone seeking a reliable, proffesional drainlayer. Alan & Jacqui

I found Stu through the Yellow Pages as I needed something attending to urgently during the holiday break. Stu couldn't have been more helpful and was able to assist immediately. I would definitely use Stu again and would recommend him highly to anyone. He's fast, very helpful and his charges very reasonable for an urgent call out. Service with a capital S!

I have dealt with Stu for over 10 years now. He is friendly, professional, honest and hardworking. If I am recommending a drainlayer for any household drainage I will always recommend Stu to anyone.

We had a blocked sewer pipe. With 5 people in the house we needed help ASAP. Stu Gray was referred by a friend. That night I sent him a text asking if he could help and he replied immediately saying he could be over next day. He came early next morning. Nice guy. Polite and thoroughly professional. A reasonable charge given it was an urgent call out. I would use him again and recommend him. Thanks Stu.

I first came across Stu after he posted a sensible, articulate and useful comment on the local community page - all about stormwater. We'd had a flooding on the 'Flood Friday' - really significant and quite upsetting. Stu came round over the weekend, gave us a detailed summary and outlined what he would do. Of all the things he did, giving me confidence and hope was a major win. He did everything he said he would do - plus some. He dug holes, cut down trees, removed roots and rebuilt my drainage system. He arrived on the day he said he would, at the time he had told me. He kept me up to date on progress and reduced costs wherever he could - when he found something unexpected he let me know about it so I had a choice, and gave me reasonable quotes on the additional work. He came back to check on his own work and gave further guidance on how to keep things under control. I would give him more than five stars if I could - if only because he really worked like a man possessed. So good I can forgive him for being a football fan.....
