Applewood - the kitchen shop is situated in the Queens Arcade, Queen St, Auckland City and has the best range of cookware, bakeware, kitchenware, appliances, kitchen tools and accessories in New Zealand.
23rd November 2012 Be very careful before buying from Applewood and make sure that you research what you want thoroughly as you can't rely on them to volunteer helpful advice.
We purchased some copper pans scanpan fusion cs5 (we actually wanted the plain stainless versions called fusion 5 but those have been discontinued in NZ).
Anyway it turns out that copper pots are not dishwasher safe, it's not just that the copper tarnishes in the D/W but that a film of toxic copper oxide forms on the inside of the pan. We would have really appreciated being warned that these pans are not D/W safe since in my mind it is a pretty reasonable thing to do these days to throw stuff in the D/W. Ok we all no that D/Ws are hard on stuff and I accept that but I think it's fair to expect to be warned if D/W use results in a toxic scum forming on the inside of the pan.
Anyway you can buy all stainless fusion 5 still in Europe and even with shipping they are cheaper than here and given the local retailers aren't exactly adding anything, what the heck, I'm done with trying to support useless local shops.
Helped me find a replacement lid for my Le Creuset casserole. Excellent special offers too.
