My personal objective is to train adults who want to learn a new skill which will make them economically independent. This will involve using the English language at a higher level than average.
This could be as a writer, proofreader, life coach or some related skill.
First step is to go to my website and read this month's free newsletter.
www.nzibs.co.nz/newsletter/
Then decide where your passion takes you.
PS: Doing nothing with this invitation means you will not move forward. Over to you.

I am currently a student with NZIBS, (Proofreading and Editing.) I find their Student Discussion Board invaluable as it puts me in direct contact with students, graduates, and tutors. A wealth of knowledge, literally at your fingertips. My tutor gives constructive feedback, and the course is thorough, yet easy enough for a novice to understand. This is my first attempt at tertiary education - I was always daunted by the very thought of studying, but NZIBS have taken the fear of failure right out of the equation. By making use of their Student Discussion Board, I have gained confidence in leaps and bounds, not only as a proofreader. With the help of their tutorials I have already secured work and I have not yet graduated!

I have just completed the Writing Stories for Children Course, This course, and my tutor's feedback has given me the confidence to finish a manuscript I started long ago, and provided me with invaluable ideas and knowledge to pursue a writing career. The flexibility of the course allowed me to complete my studies amidst several shifts of address, work and the busy-ness of having four children. Access to the student discussion board kept me in touch with other students and tutors and proved to be a great pool of writing and editing experience. I whole heartedly recommend NZIBS as a rewarding place to study. Amanda Edwards

It has been a great pleasure to read the testimonials from graduates of NZIBS training courses. Many are now "out there" earning a good income, even from part time hours. Some work as editors and proofreaders for publishers in UK, USA, RSA, and other places. Lately I've been teaching people how to write EBOOKS and put them on Amazon. this is the exciting future of writing, books, publishing and reading. Brian Morris, Principal

I am a graduate of the Book Editing, Proofreading and Publishing course. Whilst I was studying, NZIBS provided the following: > strong support from tutors > communication with staff and students via the student discussion board > course material that was comprehensive and helpful > encouragement. I have retained a graduate membership.

I am a recent graduate of the NZIBS' Diploma in Book Editing, Proofreading and Publishing. I graduated with my Diploma attained with Excellence last month, and must extend my deepest thanks to my tutor and all the staff for the encouragement and support that I received during my course of study. I feel immensely proud to have been part of such a wonderful learning institute and have no hesitation in recommending NZIBS to anyone looking to pursue a career in editing or any of the other many courses on offer by NZIBS. They are a high quality educational provider who are with you every step of the way; teaching, motivating and helping you to gain the skills and confidence you need to pursue and persist with your passion. Now, with my newly acquired editing skills I am excited to see what the future has in store for me. It has truly been a pleasure to have studied with you! With sincere thanks, Anjileen (Dip. Edit).

I attended the book launch of Chris Curtis's first book about living on the island of SARK. What a privilege for me to see a 'raw recruit' go from a timid writer to a published author, in one year. The flower fairly blossomed. I'm thrilled to have played a small part in Chris's development as a writer. Brian Morris

I have recently finished the ' Creative writing' course and owe a debt of gratitude to Brian and Carol Morris and my tutor, Joan Rosier Jones . Without their support I would not have had the courage to start writing in earnest. As it is I have just published and launched my first 'Memoir" ' So You want to Live on Sark'. Brian and Carol came over to waiheke for the launch just over a week ago, and I have sold all but 33 of the first printing of 100. I am now some chapters into my second; 'So You want to Visit New Zealand'. I think the course is well designed and encourages students to try other genres; I certainly neveer thought I could write poetry pr a novel. I will have a go soon at that too.

Brenda S I am presently enrolled with NZIBS and half way through the creative writing course. I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of each assignment, and even though I am working on my own, I feel extremely supported by the staff and principal at all times. I have had conversations with my tutor and appreciate the support I receive from her on completion of each assignment. I would recommend anyone interested in writing or in another other course offered by the Institute, to complete their diploma with NZIBS. I couldn't imagine doing this course through anyone else and I cannot speak more highly of NZIBS. Go for it, an excellent course.

I've just completed the Creative Writing Course through NZIBS and recommend it to anyone who wishes to learn to write well. It's not hard but it is challenging and it covers a lot of different writing styles. The instructors are great and you have opportunites to talk to them one-on-one, as well as querying anything that may seem odd or confusing. If you wish to learn how to write, as a career or just for pleasure, NZIBS is the place to go. I highly recommend them.

I am a current student of NZIBS in the Freelance Photography Diploma. They are fantastic! They have been so helpful, and flexible on every aspect of making a decision to study to fit around full time work and a family. They have payment plans to suit your budget, help on structuring your study and flexible if you have unforeseen circumstances to help you manage your life and your study. I highly recommend them - the course content, staff and tutors are helpful and constructive. My experience from the first time I picked up the phone and chatted to them for 30 mins has been amazing and the followup on email was never pushy. Once I made decision the enrollment was simple and course materials arrived promptly. Go for it!

Not coming from a writing background but being very keen to learn I found the N.Z.I.B.S. course excellent. The greatest reward that I am receiving personally is the confidence imparted through both the supervisers and training staff. Once part of the course you find yourself being important. Any blunders as you work through the course are transformed into steps in learning to succeed. What is more you are introduced to this whole literary world that I never realised even existed. You receive the ability to Interact with others via a forum and kept well up to date via a great newsletter. This course is one of life's true adventures!

For those who love words and the mechanics of English the NZIBS Dip. Edit course paves the way to making a living from something you enjoy. Does life get much better than that? Well, yes. The Dip. Edit course goes beyond teaching you editorial and proofreading skills. You finish the course with a suite of stationery for your fledgling company and a full business development plan to guide you in the early stages of your new business. This coupled with the ongoing graduate support boosts confidence for the new editing and proofreading business operator.

I have just graduated and received a Diploma in Book Editing, Proofreading and Publishing and couldn't be happier. I didn't think that I would be able to study again after being away from that 'scene' for the past 25 years but it was made easy and enjoyable by the institute. I am looking forward getting some freelance work from this and getting back into the workforce. I would have no hesitation in recommending study with NZIBS.

The comment by FCarmichael has a significant sentence. "I have since found new and unexpected doors opening up." Surely that is the key to up-skilling ourselves. We do something and then the unexpected bonus result kicks in. Usually in ways we would not even dream of. Serendipity. I think that's marvellous. BM.

I thought the NZIBS Editing and Proofreading Diploma course would be pretty easy for me as mistakes always jump off the page. I pleasantly surprised to discover that I had much to learn and was challenged all throughout the duration of the course. I graduated in August 2009, and having obtained the necessary skills to set myself up as a freelance editor I have since found new and unexpected doors opening up. I am working part-time as a freelance journalist, and I can honestly say that for the first time in my life I am getting paid for doing something which I really love doing.

I am midway through my diploma course of NZIBS' Creative Writing. I find the course very practical and there are windows opening up all over the place. Things I didn't know about, techniques, advice, encouragement, AND improvement! Most of all I learn to treasure what is in my heart, to follow my passion and hopefully, through this course, I find the means to actually earn money while doing something I really love.

I'm a graduate of NZIBS' Editing and Proofreading Diploma course. It's a very practical and enjoyable course, gently leading the student into the prospect of setting up a freelance proofreading/editing business, or towards employment in the publishing industry. Since graduating in Feb 2009 I have had my first (paid and regular) magazine editing job, and look forward to many more, once I start advertising!

Some years ago I signed up for the Creative Writing course which I thoroughly enjoyed. Two years ago I embarked on the Editing & Proofreading course. In both instances the support and encouragement I received was excellent, and I got such a kick out of getting assignments back and seeing how I'd done. I would, and do, recommend NZIBS to anyone contemplating this kind of study.

I wanted to do the Freelance Journalism course to improve my writing technique at work. After graduating I stumbled across a local business wanting to increase it's global profile. I submitted some PR concepts that they liked and I now have a moonlighting job writing their press releases! I would never have had the confidence to do this prior to undertaking the course. Thanks NZIBS for your guidance and support. The course has been great value for money, - and money that I will now easily recoup!

In late 2008 I graduated from the NZIBS Freelance Travel Writer and Photographer course.I took the course to improve my writing and grammar and to keep my mind active post retirement. I had no intention of offering my work for publication. I appreciated the objective advice and encouragement offered by my tutor, and felt the course covered aspects of writing, marketing and the law clearly and concisely. Thanks to NZIBS I am now enjoying the thrill of seeing my work published in newspapers and magazines and am actually being paid for it! Josie

I'm currently completing the digital photography course through NZIBS and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I've found the tutor really helpful and constructive when marking assignments and the student discussion board helps you not to feel isolated. When I finish I won't have any hesitation signing up with them to complete the advanced level.
I'm currently completing the digital photography course through NZIBS and I am thoroughly enjoying it. When I finish I won't have any hesitation signing up with them to complete the advanced level.

I graduated from the NZIBS course in freelance journalism in 2004, and enjoyed it so much they were my first choice when I looked for further education in the creative writing field. I graduated from their creative writing programme in early 2009. Their support by post, phone and online was invaluable as a student, and their graduates club membership still provides me with support. Kushla Haenen, Freelance Writer.

The NZIBS Proofreading and Editing course provides invaluable training and experience. You learn at your own pace, the tutors are friendly and supportive and the office staff are marvellous. Each tutorial reinforces earlier lessons and there are plenty of practice examples. The Student Discussion Board means that friendly support from other students is only a message away. The Institute's ongoing postgraduate support is invaluable. I would highly recommend NZIBS's learning experience to anyone who wants to develop new skills or hobbies. I have been associated with the NZIBS as photographer, consultant and tutor for many years and I can heartily recommend their business. The NZIBS takes the long distance course learning process to a new interactive level - I am very happy with their business association. Robert A F van de Voort www.albanystudios.co.nz
