Tangihua Lions Lodge

The Tangihua lodge is a fully self contained 480 sqm outdoor education centre which can sleep 50 people. It was built by the local Mid Western Lions club and other Lions Clubs. It provides access to Northlands native forests for large groups at a minimum cost. Over 10,000 people have experienced the outdoors here since it was opened in 1988.
The lodge, totally surrounded by bush, is in Northlands Tangihua ranges, 2km off the Omana Rd, 15km from Maungakaramea. Busses and ordinary cars can drive to it.

Educators such as School camps, scouts, cadets, Search and rescue organizations, Polytechs.
Recreational groups such as tramping clubs, day care groups, Forest and bird
Family occasions such as weddings, birthday(TM)s, reunions and other special occasions
Business groups for meetings, conferences, team building courses etc
Things to do
There are a number of bush trails to: A Kauri dam, a stand of Kauri called the sisters, Horokaka transmitter on top of the ranges. The nearby stream provides swimming holes.
There is a confidence course designed for school children a Burma trail and orienteering courses.
There are areas for camping away from the lodge. Tents, packs and compasses are available for hire.
Facilities
The main lodge has excellent kitchen facilities including a sterilizer, commercial ovens and a large hot plate. There is a fridge - freezer, a walk in chiller plus a large pantry. All cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery required for a prolonged stay by a large group are provided. Mains power, hot running water for showers. There is a drying room, large dining room and four bunk rooms. The lodge also has a large covered in area (100msq) suitable for wet days, a 60sqm deck and BBQ facilities. There is wheel chair access to all facilities including toilets.
An additional building, with lounge, cooking facilities and a bedroom allows staff or individuals to take time out from the main lodge.
