8th July 2012 The service and atmosphere is crafted to a high standard. The restaurant has each room setup in 1920's fashion so it is excellent for small functions. A dress code is observed however it seems to run close to semi formal for women and formal for men. The main menu contains extravagant food set with a wine or whisky selection. I found it quite refreshing to have the whisky selection with the food paring. As many restaurants will consider whisky more a post meal drink and will not stock more than a simple brand. Whether it is chicken stuffed with blood pudding or lamb topped with escargot the preparation is mouth watering. The mixture of flavours is simple and strong. The ingredients less so. Small portions will leave you wanting to come back for more. However the main menu is not for the small of pocket. The very fashionable ingredients, wines and whiskys do not come cheaply but for the rarity of them you would not expect them to. For the cigar smokers there is also an option except you will not be smoking at your table. Booking well in advance is a must, and perhaps saving for the meal.

5th February 2012 To be honest, I could go to Prohibition and not eat anything and would be amazed by the place. The old 1920's and gangster feel it's so amazing I could walk out of there feeling that I've been to one of the coolest places in town. Every time me and my friends go there is for the low-tea, and we always have a great time.
The little rolled pavlovas are to die for, the small scones and deserts come down as a massive treat. Love the variety of teas offered and the service is top. Have to go back to Prohibition with husband for a try on the dinner menu, but whatever you do there, going in is definitely worth it.
The staff are absolutely amazing, and dressed to the occasion. I really can't find anything to fault Prohibition [and I'm being honest!].

1st February 2012 I was lucky enough to spend the evening of my 21st birthday here and it was simply wonderful. Brilliant staff, stunning atmosphere. The attention to detail is perfect. The best restaurant I've been to in New Zealand. My father and other guests all felt the same.
VERY good wine. Special occasion or out to impress? This is what you're looking for.

20th July 2011 I love how this restaurant has a 1920s theme. It's very cool, quirky and makes for a unique dining experience. Stepping inside is like another world. You can choose to wear your finest 1920s threads, or just dress to impress for a night in Ponsonby.
My friends and I decided to go along to High Tea for a birthday treat at 2pm Saturday (they call it Low Tea at Prohibition), and it was one of the best high tea experiences I've had. Delicious food, impeccable service, and a highly sophisticated environment.
Gluten free options available, champagne options available and a fabulous overall dining encounter.
Check it out. Bookings recommended.

7th November 2010 Im full of emotions, would be less so if I found this place somewhere in Europe or even in Australlia. Nice to get a decent restaurant feel rather than a cafe style service and presentation typical for nowadays - they open entry door for you, move your chair, give you a little stool for your hand bag, they even have paper toilet seat covers - somthing i thought gone into history. Food is very hearty - my pork chop on bone was enormous and so tender and flavoursome we polished our plates. Im very touched - it was an experience.

1st August 2010 Been twice now, we thought maybe they were having a bad night. Friends wanted to go again, we weren't too keen but gave it another go. Overpriced food and wine. Food very average. Service from one waiter in particular rude. Very slow.
I would not recommed to anyone and in fact, due to rude staff would tell people not to go.
