Had the pleasure of a meal at the Boulcott Street Bistro in early May. I tried their signature dish for an entree & fish for a main. They did not disappoint. The Calamari (entree) was moist and soft and the best I've tasted anywhere in NZ. It stands alone and does not need any accompaniment but they do offer lemon and tartare sauce. The Fish of the Day (blue cod) was nicely accompanied by creamy leek noodle and red pepper fondue which lifted the fish into heavenly territory.Boulcott St Bistro is a high end restaurant with excellent value for the high qulaity fare. Four stars+

I had dinner there two weeks ago. The beef fillet with Bearnaise. Huge sized fillet cooked to perfection, tender, absolutely diving. Great service and nice ambiente. Warmly recommended.

Boulcott Street Bistro is my absolute favourite restaurant in Wellington - It is consistently good - I recently recommended it to work colleagues from Auckland, they'd heard of Boulcott and were keen to try it out - they emailed me to say they had a fantastic time, loved the food and were very well looked after. It's great to have a reliably fantastic restaurant to recommend to friends and co- workers. It never fails to impress!

I have to admit I have been dying to go to Boulcott St Bistro for years. The food, the ambiance, I hear it has it all. Since it is our anniversary and all, my partner and I decided we deserve a fancy dinner at a local favorite. So we decide to take everyone's advice and try BSB. Because BSB doesn't accept dinner reservation, and being a Monday night, we figured we would be able to arrive at any time and be seated. To our dismay, everyone else in Wellington had the same idea. The wait, 1.5 hours. Ok, I guess this place is packed for a reason, right!? We sit at the bar and crack open a lovely Pinot and wait for our table. I look over the menu several times, and I keep returning back to the Poisson du Jour with shrimp Ravioli. sounds delectable. And my partner, a BSB favorite, lamb shank. After finally being seated, we order as fast as we can. Up to this point I am rating the place at least 4 stars, maybe even 4.5. As I understand sometimes restaurants get an unexpected rush and you have to wait for a table. not big deal. The wine was great, the ambiance was great. An adorable place it is. The only thing holding this place at the moment from a full rating is the server doesn't give us Pinot Noir glasses when we order a bottle. Instead, whimpy white wine glasses. I see fancy Riedel or Spiegelau glasses at every other table. Being a BIG wine buff myself, I was very disappointed. After waiting another 40 minutes for our food, it arrives. Being I order the fish, I am astounded it actually smells like fish. Really?? I take a bite. fish is cooked well, but the shrimp ravioli my mouth was once salivating for has diverted tracks. The filling is watery, smelly and tasteless. My guess, it was frozen. I had to hold back from making a scene and sending the dish back. Being an iconic Wellington restaurant known for its food, a fantastic chef, I expected a dish to melt in my mouth. It was far from. My partners lamb was cooked very well, but not 5 stars. I think my $8 side dish of cauliflower gratin won the dish of the night. Pathetic, I'd say. Overall, my experience was really good and I am happy I am able to say I have been to Boulcott St Bistro. But the food was sub-par bringing my rating low. I would not come back again. or maybe is was just something in the air, a very bad night for the chef??? I will never know.......

Decided to treat my husband - we have recently moved from Christchurch and we are huge foodies and knew Boulcott had a great reputation....well we were not disappointed. All started off with a glass of bubbles at the bar - really friendly, not over the top waiting staff. The food was impeccable and everything just melted in your mouth - like the fact that they provide delicious wine by the glass - so you don't feel compelled to buy a bottle! We are going to try and go more regularly as I know it won't disappoint.

I have now been here twice, and both meals were faultless. The service is excellent and the setting cosy (quite cosy - but it's a bistro so that's to be expected!). I wouldn't hesitate to go back again. The meats here are generously portioned, melt in your mouth and are cooked to absolute perfection - it's not often that a medium rare steak is just that.

Was recommended this restaurant by the place I was staying, and was glad of it. Everything was top notch, couldn't fault a thing. Great to see old heritage sites being utilised and enjoyed too.

I was staying just up on the Terrace and was recommended this restaurant for lunch and was not disappointed. The setting is an old historic cottage and very easy on the eye. Inside, everything from the service through to the table water was fantastic. Highly recommend the lamb shank and the fish of the day.

We had lunch as part of Wellington on a Plate. Can't think of anything that could be improved. Service was top notch. Food was excellent, a great range of flavours in every mouthful. Atmosphere is great in this classic wooden building. Had a great time.

Still one of my favourite Wellington restaurants, and a guaranteed great place to take visitors. I introduced the the bistro to some colleagues from Sydney and they loved everything about it - food, service, wine, atmosphere and of course the building. I felt a little proud!

A classic bistro menu, prepared simply and never fails to impress. Chef, legendary Rex Morgan, has incorporated a local flavours which bring a special twist to the traditional fare. We were given a gazpacho type soup as an appetizer, which was flavoured with the Kawa kawa leaves, a unique and really tasty start to our dinner. I've eaten here several times and highly recommend as place for both an intimate dinner or a group.

I've eaten at the bistro a number of times, and it's a sure winner for a special night out, or when you want to impress. The ambience is lovely, the wine list will satisfy the most fussy of diners, and the food and service is excellent. Quite pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Went with 'visa wellington on a plate' lunches. So had the set menu $35 per head which was a entree and a main with a glass of wine, good price for a flash meal. Lovely building, sadly interor looking a bit tired. It was the last Friday of the 2 week event so was busy, i think we were the last 2 set menus. Green salad looked nice, cauli soup more cream than cauli. My partners sirlion looked and apparently tasted good. My risotto looked great but was very salty! I like salt and was nearly too much for me, and could of been a bit creamier. Sadly it must of been a long day for our waiter cos he was somewhat gruff and ignored us a couple of times, which was a shame cos at the end of it the food was ok for a set special, and was going to get 4 stars. The other waiter, she was lovely and very welcoming.

Have eaten here several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. During certain hours (straight after work etc) the atmosphere can be a little overwhelming with lots of self important business people showing off and pretending they are masters of the universe, but you cannot choose your clientelle. The food is fantastic and the wine selection is varied and well priced without being too overwhelming. Great service, great food......shame about the lawyers and advertising execs....
