Kura restaurant is modern style Japanese food with a fusion twist. Kura means "warehouse" in Japanese.
Slide the old temple door on Queen Street and descend down to Kura Japanese restaurant. The building Kura is in used to be an old grain silo when there was a stream running through Queen St., hence the name Kura, which means warehouse in Japanese. Adorning the old stone wall that is a legacy from Auckland~s colonial days, are gorgeous Japanese silk wedding kimonos, also dotted around are Japanese antiques, all of which are for sale. During winter there is an open fire.
There is an ever changing daily specials menu which reflects the seasonal changes and what is fresh from the fish markets that day. Highly recommended is our beautifully presented fresh sashimi platters, visually stunning oeBridge or oeSpider sushi rolls and the deep fried soft shell crab is a must!
With over 24 different sakes to choose from and a small well matched wine list, Kura's relaxed ambiance adds to a wonderful dining experience.
Kura is a favourite for a romantic date but also caters for larger groups.

Awesome food. Beautifully presented. Not your average sushi, but something... so much more! It is a little pricey, but it's worth it once in a while. Very authentic atmosphere and interior deco. Friendly staff. I recommend sitting at the bar seats on the far side, where you can watch the chefs make sushi rolls right in front of you. It is a truly wonderful dinner experience :)
