15th October 2012 Sensational food. This is one of the best 3 restaurants in new Plymouth. The fettucini was amazing. My friend had steak (sacrilege at Italian restaurant) and that too was a ten. Menu is impressive cooked in genuine wood fired ovens. Even the deserts outstanding. A+ service. Not to be missed

24th December 2010 Yes I have to say this is definitely one of my favourite restaurants. Not only does the food tantalise the pallet and eyes but the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and very relaxing. If I had to choose one thing that really stood out about this restaurant, I would have to pick the service. It was second to none. Our waitress was immaculately presented, professional and made us feel like we were part of a very special experience. Our whole family have been with us on different occasions and their opinions are all the same, they would go again without a seconds hesitation. Keep up the wonderful work Portofino and you will continue to excel as one of the best restaurants in New Plymouth if not New Zealand. Many thanks Portofino for a truly wonderful dining experience.

22nd July 2010 The test of a great Restaurant is how easy or hard it is to get a table on those quiet midweek nights. Don't expect to just walk in the door & get a seat here, it really does pay to book for any night of the week. That mens you know you are going to get great food and plenty of it, you'll not leave here hungry & if you can find room to try a dessert, then you've done really well. No long waits once you've ordered, a really smooth flow of food to the table and a fantastic relaxing ambience.

14th July 2010 Recenty, in Taranaki with the Taranaki Book Close, our team from Manawatu (8 of us, including our General Sales Manager) dined at Portofino's in Gill Street, New Plymouth. Although only a Tuesday night, we booked because we were a reasonably large party. From the moment we walked in to when we left, approximately two hours later it was an enjoyable and memorable experience, and they exceeded all of our expectations. They were busy, but seemed unfazed as more diners began pouring in to the warm and cosy atmosphere they have created. We were given our menus, and it was a hard decision, as their options all looked apetising. There wasn't a long wait before our starters arrived and talk was at a minimum as we enjoyed our selections.
The mains were equally appealing and I fully recommend the lasagne. Some of my colleagues swear by the various pizza options.
There were no long waits, no muck ups with our orders and the staff were pleasant and courteous. There was a light banter in the cooking area, and I personally found it great to see staff enjoying a few laughs as they worked professionally and quickly to deliver faultless food. My one regret, and I share that with my other 7 colleagues, was that we did not order desert. We were too full! Dessert will have to wait till next time. And there will definitely be a next time. We all fully recommend Portofino's in New Plymouth. Make sure you go hungry. You will enjoy.
