The zoo experience contributes to Ministry of Education (EOC) outcomes of ~effective teaching and learning(TM) and to ~family and community engagement in education(TM). Opportunities for focused and holistic learning link to the early childhood curriculum strands of exploration, communication and contribution.
Learning occurs as children participate in authentic experiences with others, and construct knowledge about wildlife, linking new learning with what they already know. Children are encouraged to develop attitudes of respect for animals.
We run these educational programs for school group visits with syllabus Education Department syllabus presented by a registered teacher.
We have children's birthday parties and family picnics.
We also have tame animals and birds which you can hand feed. Feed bags $1 or $2 each.
