1st March 2017 My dog stayed at Glenstar Kennels for 2 months and when picked up he had put 5 kg (20% of his body weight). Imagine if you were a 75 kg human and gained 15 kg in only 2 months! The combination of physical activity and food quantity was clearly inappropriate. Avoid them if you care about your pets' health. I expand on my experience in a blog post http://www.quantumforest.com/2017/02/why-you-shouldnt-entrust-your-pet-to-glenstar-kennels/

19th September 2015 I would just like to respond to the reply to my review of your kennels. I did arrange an early drop off for Yana and to be fair I did not arrange for an early pick up but just presumed that I would be able to pick up the same time. My mistake and I apologise for that. On pick up I only went into the office to pay the account and nowhere near any kitchen.. I had no interest in any files of yours, why would I. You state that you fed her twice per day so I take it that she did not get the lunch that I provided for her. Your dog did bite my leg and my response was "lucky it didn't rip my trousers" When I went out to my car to collect my lead your dog showed that it was still aggressive and I raised my lead to show it that it was not to attack again. The lead never left my hand and I did not swing it at you dog. As for charges...your web site clearly states that you charge $27 per day for a Labrador - Boxer size dog not the $29 you charged me. I really expected better from people who say they breed Labradors

18th September 2015 THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD! When I dropped my dog off the man who took her put a bit of string around her neck and dragged her out of sight giving me the impression there was no care involved at all. I explained her diet (AND SUPPLIED ALL HER FOOD) only to be laughed at when I showed him the apples and carrots I provided for her lunch. When I arrived to pick her up I was attacked by their dog that bit me on the leg. I got the usual patter from someone with an out of control dog "He's never done that before". Be aware folks, if you drop your pet off in the evening you will be charged for that whole day! The charge for a Labrador is $27 per day. I was charged for three days which, when I went to school would have been $81, but they charged me $87 with no explanation. I supplied all her food. I had to bath my dog when I got her home because she smelt so bad. The girl was rude and unhelpful at best. STAY AWAY FOLKS!

18th September 2015 I did wonder if this client would be a problem, Arriving outside of hours which are clearly sign posted, an arrangement had been made for this for drop off but not collection. The dog had a slip lead placed on her. The dog was then lead through to the kennel block. She was fed according to the instructions whilst she was here ( 3 days) and had a funny smell the whole time she had been in the kennels. Yanna was a lovely girl who we had no problems with. On pick up he arrived an hour before we opened Marched into a staff only area ( Kitchen) was rude looking though files that did not have anything to do with him. He was not attacked he was barked at whilst the dog ran upto him ( Witnessed by another staff member) and then on a seperate occasion was seen to swung a lead at the dog in an aggressive mannor. This dog has never bitten anyone. He tried to tell me she had ripped his pants but there was no mark or rip in the pants. Had he arrived during our posted business hours she would havebeen locked up.Our rates are clearly displayed in the office as being $29 dollars per day for a large dog as of the 1st July, like a hotel we charge for the day of incoming as that unit is for that dog for that day regardless of arrival time ( Like a hotel) If he had picked up in the morning there would have been no charge for the day of pick up, as it was an afternoon pick up She had been excercised 3 times that day, fed twice as per the instructions and her unit and been cleaned twice and therefore was charged for the full day. I was threatend by this client and he tried to be intimidating. Although Yanna was lovely we asked him not to come back.

15th December 2012 My toy dog boarded here for over 30 days on the understanding the fee would be $20.00 per day. I had relocated to the North Island . When I found a new residence I contacted the kennels, spoke to the daughter as her mother was on holiday and renegiotated the fee to a reduced price due to the lenghty stay . I was astonised and very upset when I picked my dog up his overall condition, was dirty, full of knots, he had not been bathed or brushed and had fleas.A few weeks later the owner contact me insisting that that the fee was $23.00 per day and I was to pay the outstanding amount which was $70.00 more than the price discussed with the daughter. At this time I had already paid the negiotated fee in full .I intend to let anyone who wants to listen about this place, I wouldnt leave my husband there. Very unprofessional. The only good thing about this place was the daughter who was very helpful.

18th December 2012 This is not an accurate account or description of the events that occurred. This client kept extending the booking as she was unsure if she wanted us to assist to rehome the dog or she could find suitable dog friendly accommodation. She was given a discount because of the length of stay. After being given the final price for departure the following day it was not convenient for her to collect the dog from the airport and the dog stayed another 5 days hence the difference in the amount given and the amount invoiced the difference of which has not been paid. The invoice was for discounted rate of $20 per day as quoted. We also transported the dog to the airport free of charge and organised a travel crate at wholesale prices..
She rang when the dog arrived in the North Island to say how happy she was with the dog but now changes her story when asked for full payment.
She was asked if she wanted the dog groomed and she declined although the dog had been bathed on two occasions at the kennels because he urinated himself when picked up and was not always clean in his unit. He did not have fleas. Owner commented how she could pick him up without problems.
Disappointing that the first we have heard of these untrue grievances have been put on a public forum.
Our daughter has a toy dog which regularly stays at Glenstar. He loves it there always comes home fighting fit.
