21st October 2015 I went to Chapman for an insurance repair job. Initially when I dropped off the car, they seemed good to deal with. By the end of the repair, I will NEVER go back to them again. Here are the reasons why:
1) The loan car they had given me had NO engine oil. After pulling out of their driveway and driving for 1 minute, I noticed the engine oil check light was on. Pulled out the oil dipstick, wiped it dry, put it back in to get a reading, and the dipstick came out bone-dry. I had to put in over 4L of my own oil (a new bottle from my spares) and asked them about it. They said they would reimburse me for the cost of the oil.
After asking about it twice, I never heard back from them, and never got reimbursed for my oil.
The engine had a lot of oil around the rocker cover and surrounding areas. The brake discs were well worn, and anything more than 30% braking would result in a shudder.
2) It was hard to get a call back or get any updates from them. I waited for 3 weeks only to be told they couldn't colour match it. I wasn't worried about the colour matching, but it shouldn't take 3 weeks to find that out.
3) I had cleared the trip meter before I left the car with them. I got the car back with 100km added to it, and the car running on 3 cylinders. I was told by the insurance company that they had to consult with another panel beater on the other side of town. But when I asked the Chapman about it, they said they had sent my fuel cap cover to them. Where did they drive my car, and for what reason?
4) The owner was hard to contact, never answered his mobile phone. I had called over 10 times with no pickup. Any voicemails I left were never answered either.

17th April 2014 The job I asked for was to re paint a car a different colour and have some custom paint work completed on the mags. Good paint job. Fair price. Really knowledgeable customer focused painters. A pity it took 6 weeks when I was advised it would be two and the wheels were not done as I asked.
I can't fault this company on quality or legal requirements but the service and communication from the manager who runs the place is appalling. I felt through the whole process that me and the job I asked for was a constant problem for him. The work didn't start for 3 weeks. The manager wouldn't quote me until 4 weeks despite frequent calls for same. I was advised he told me from the outset that they don't do wheels despite the fact I discussed the theme with the painter. Apparently I must not have been listening properly. First rule of any business is know your customers and treat them professionally or they take there business elsewhere.
If you are looking for good customer service good communication and hoping to get what you spend time communicating to contractors about don't go here. This outfit is set up best for insurance companies who send customer cars in for repairs. Your car gets worked on in the weekends as a side project as it interferes with collision repairs which is their priority and holds the workshop up. Be prepared for dismissive non interested interaction with the guy who runs it all. I should have gone to a custom paint shop.
