Good service and nice atmosphere but food very bland - no seasoning except for chilli - so you can have it super spicy but the rest of the meal doesn't taste of everything.

Visited on a Thursday night and the place was buzzing. Great friendly service with very onto it staff. Food nothing overly innovative but the usual favourites done well. Definately worth a visit.

Great food, great staff and great atmosphere. This place was quite busy when I was there on a Saturday night so was quite noisy so may not be somewhere to go for a romantic candle-lit dinner. A great place to go with friends for a catch-up :)

I recently visited The Mexican Cafe for dinner with my girlfriends and let me tell you it was such a buzz! as soon as you walk up the stairs you are greeted with an eye popingly colourful environment filled with Mexican paintings, pictures and somberero's! The atmosphere is bubbling with fun and energy and the food is amazing and authentic. The meals are well priced for the amount you get. Me and my girlfriends couldn't help but sample the many flavoured margarita's that are made right before your eyes by the friendly barmen. This is a fantastic place to take your girlfriends to or your family! You definetly must check it out today!

If your going into the city for a night on the town this is a must stop, after a few of the very potent Mojitos made by the strapping bar lads we were ready to party, it has a great atmosphere to get any group in the mood. Food is average but very typical mexican and cheap enough to not really care, cos the drinks are awesome !! Guess who had a few to many Mojitos !! yeah !

The atmosphere is amazing, with the place buzzing, epsecially on a friday or saturday night, however the food is not the greatest. The margarita jugs are great, and perhaps the food will taste better after a few of those, but my friends and I usually just come here for a few drinks and nibbles then leave for elsewhere for dinner.

Having once experienced a very long waiting time on a certain weekend visit, we now normally dine on weekdays. Love the ambience. Great cocktails. Somewhat friendly service. Sadly, the food menu is not spectacular and the quality of food is mediocre. Still, it's a good option to dine in on 'Boring Tuesdays' or 'Midweek Wednesdays' :)

Great atmosphere, extensive menu. We went on a Friday night and whilst we had to wait 30 mins for a table we were lucky enough to be there whilst happy hour was on so enjoyed a great Margarita. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Mexican at a great value.

Great vibes and food at the Mexican Cafe, perhaps a little overpriced in the evenings. But the lunch menu is great if you are wanting to catch up with friends or hold a meeting, I suggest sitting on the deck if you like being able to hear your lunch/dinner companions though. I suppose it's all part of the authenticity of the place. Very tasty food overall though!

This is a great place for after work drinks and dinner catch ups. The service is always friendly and the food delicious. My advice - try the passionfruit margarita! Pricing is great too, Very cheap for the good food and service you receive.

I have been to this restaurant before and always had a positive experience, but I've never been on a busy Saturday night. The difference is quite notable. You can't reserve a table at any time so we arrived early (around 6.30pm) to make sure we could get a table and to eat at a reasonable hour. We were seated within 15 minutes of arriving, not even enough time to finish our drinks at the bar which was great. We ordered out entree and meals then asked for a bottle of wine and some water. We were given our entree (cheese dip with nachos) quite promptly then the wine arrived, but not the water. We asked the server to bring the water but we had still not received it 30 minutes later. At this point our food arrived and I must say it was very disappointing, I had the chimichangas and my friend had the quesadillas. Both came served with a side of Mexican rice which was very very dry and tasteless. We both could not finish our meals as they were so bland. By this stage we asked a third time for water and were eventually given one glass each. We ended up complaining to the waitress who very kindly took the main meals off the bill for us. We paid for only the wine and entree. Overall I would recommend not going on a Saturday night as the experience was not enjoyable.

Situated in the hub of Auckland city, the tasteful ambience of the Mexican café invites the diner with its traditional décor, delicious menu and friendly service. The central bar is where you can enjoy some great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks while waiting to be seated during busy times. Furthermore, the outside deck is an absolutely wonderful dining spot where you can enjoy the weather and the view of the skytower! On a recent dinner visit to the Mexican café, i enjoyed a spicy vegetarian taco salad that complemented my sweet cranberry drink. Followed by an authentic dish called the enchilada. The best thing about the Mexican café menu is that all the dishes can be accommodated to a vegetarian option. All things considered, the Mexican café will keep you coming back to sample the plethora of affordable Mexican dishes—from the burritos, nachos and taco salads, to the enchiladas and chimichangas. It is rustic and not that fancy but definitely has got the lively ‘charm’ – great for slightly younger generations. The place is fun and busy, the food is good and great margaritas. It’s nice to look out the busy city street on the balcony having cocktails. Not a place for a quiet romantic chat though – perfect for a casual big group party.

I really love the atmosphere at this place - it is always packed and its kinda "rustic" but thats what makes it fun. Love getting margaritas and the Chicken Chimichangas are great! Can quite confidently say the toilets are clean - I once had to fish my phone out of them!

I have been going to Mex Cafe for years and years. It is always a guaranteed place to go if we want a great meal, atmosphere and cocktails. I always, without fail order the Chicken Chimichanga. When I go with a new group of friends I also try to get them to have the Chimichanga! In my opinion it is the best thing on the menu. They often have live bands playing too. Difficult place to get a table at times because it is popular and buzzing.

We went there for dinner on a friends recommendation - thanks sarah! we had such a great time, happy hour means cheap margaritas, the place is gorgeous with a great atmosphere and the food was so delicious we just had to have desserts! the service was so friendly and fun, we didn't want to leave. will surely be back soon. great value for money and a great lively night out in Auckland - not an easy task but we did it!

Food wonderful, especially the Salsa and happy hour is good times also. The live vibrant atmosphere of being somewhere unique and the music that may be heard makes it a great dining/drinking experience.

Great atmosphere, extensive menu. We went on a Friday night and whilst we had to wait 30 mins for a table we were lucky enough to be there whilst happy hour was on so enjoyed a great Margarita. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Mexican at a great value.
