Bob Howden started Bob Howden Engineering Limited in Hornby, Christchurch in 1988, bringing with him 40 years of engineering experience. Coming from a farming background and completing his apprenticeship in a large rural Canterbury workshop with a strong emphasis on quality, this proved to be very thorough training ground, laying a sound basis to develop his skills with further experience over the following years.
Time was then spent operating, building and repairing a wide range of machinery in New Zealand, Europe and Australia. Here he gained considerable experience, which helped him further the ability to "think outside the square".
