5th April 2013 As a property manage of 6 rental properties, I deal with a lot of trades people and suppliers, but I can't actually remember the last time (if ever) that I have had the exceptional service provided by Banks Engineering. We moved house last year and Banks Engineering was subcontracted by the moving company we hired to move our pizza oven to our new house. We were happy with their work and their friendly service so when we wanted our playhouse moved I got them to come over and quote. Banks Engineering arrived to quote an hour or so after I had contacted them. He was happy to do the job then but I decided to get him back the next morning. When he arrived the next morning we both discovered that my neighbours didn't want the playhouse to be put up on the platform and due to this had blocked the access to the back of our house with two cars. I was shocked by this and apologized to him about wasting his time. He was fantastic. He was very understanding about the situation which resulted in lost time (and therefore money) for Banks Engineering. He didn't charge me anything, despite having asked me the day before if the neighbours were OK about us accessing our back yard via their driveway. I was really impressed with how compassionate he was about the situation. To my surprise, the next morning he came back and gave me a box of chocolates, he said he wanted to do something nice as he could see how upset I was about what had happened. Wow, it is very seldom that people step out of their 'business role' and do something which demonstrates they care about people and not just money.

8th July 2011 WHAT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE IS THIS JOB WAS BOOKED TO BE DONE 2 WEEKS EARLIER (AT SHORT NOTICE). WHEN EVERY THING WAS PLANNED AND READY THE OWNERS CANCELLED BECAUSE IT DIDN'T SUIT THEM TO PROCEED AT THIS STAGE.
THEN WHEN THEY WERE READY WE WERE ALREADY BOOKED ON OUR SAFTEY COURSE. I OFFERD TO DO THE INSTALL THE DAY BEFORE BUT ONCE AGAIN THIS DID NOT SUIT THEM.
I TOLD THE OWNER ON THE PHONE THAT WE WOULD NOT HAVE MUCH TIME THE NEXT DAY BUT WE WOULD ENSURE THE BEAM WAS INSIDE SO THE BUILDER COULD MAKE THE SITE WATER TIGHT FOR THE WEEKEND.
WHEN THE OWNERS WIFE CAME HOME DURING THIS COMPLEX INSTALLATION SHE PROCEEDED TO DEGRADE AND MAKE UNJUSTIFIED REMARKS TO MY STAFF.
I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THEM VERY UPSET WITH THE TREATMENT THEY WERE GETTING. I ARRIVED AT THE SITE TO ACCESS THE SITUATION AND GOT ABUSED AS WELL, I DECIDED THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFE WORKING ENVIRONMENT FOR ANYONE TO WORK IN SO INSTRUCTED MY STAFF TO MAKE OUR WORK AREA SAFE AND LEAVE THE SITE, WHICH WAS DONE.
THE ONLY MESS LEFT WAS THEIR OWN DEMOLITION MATERIALS SCATTERED EVERYWERE.
THE OWNERS WERE INSTRUCTED THAT WE WOULD RETURN AT 9AM THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, BUT ONLY IF THE WIFE WAS NOT HOME TO CAUSE US ANY MORE GRIEF.THIS WAS AGREED TO.
WE ARRIVED ON SITE AT 9AM AND WERE TOLD BY THE WIFE THAT IF WE STARTED WORK BEFORE 9:30 SHE WOULD CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE US ARRESTED. IN TOTAL ASTONISHMENT MY FOUR STAFF WAITED OUTSIDE UNTILL 9:30 THEN CARREID OUT THE JOB AS PER OUR PLAN. THIS WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED IN WHAT TURNED OUT TO BE A VERY DIFFICULT TASK 3 HRS LATER.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS IS THAT NO OTHER TRADES- PERSON SHOULD HAVE TO ENDURE THIS KIND OF ABUSE AND I WOULD KINDLY SHARE THIS INFORMATION TO ANYONE THAT ENQUIRES TO THE SUITABILITY OF THIS CLIENT.
PS
IM DISGUSTED THAT THIS PERSON SEES THEMSELVES FIT TO POST SUCH A DISGACEFUL ATTEMPT TO DISHONOR OUR GOOD NAME ON A FORUM SUCH AS THIS.
WE HAVE BEEN TRADING FOR 20 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS A CUSTOMER LIKE THIS.
SHE WON'T EVEN SIGN HER NAME TO IT .
SINCERELY

31st May 2011 On the agreed day of installing our 7 mtr, 500 kg structural beam, our builders were waiting to assist with the install, when the team from Banks finally arrived, they then placed the beam inside the house and then proceeded to tell us that they had no intention of installing it that day. It was Friday and getting to late in the day for them. When we questioned this, as when talking to the boss earlier in the day we were all go for install, he was not on site despite telling us he would be. The team that was there were rude disrespectful and offensive. When the boss/ owner finally arrived to clarify things, he then told the team what the plan was to install our beam, apparently the team had arrived with no plan of installing that day only to dump and run, and then proceeded to tell his team that due to it being 3.30 on Friday, bearing in mind they turned up at 2.30 pm, there was no point in proceeding and it would have to wait till monday. When we as the clients questioned this, as we had builders hanging around waiting for the Banks team and other contractors waiting to come on site on Monday only able to proceed after the beam was installed, we were treated to one of the most unprofessional displays of behavior we have ever seen, told our job was not important to them, they had a million dollar contract in town and we would just have to wait amongst other things, the team were rude, aggressive and threatening, the way we were spoken to was despicable. When the team from Banks left our home, the beam was left on the floor propped up on two pieces of wood on end at either end of the beam with no support in the middle so it could topple and our roof was left unsecured, despite the reason the team came on site late was due to them being at a safety course in the morning. The upshot was we had to have our builders on site for an extra day, and other contractors had to be put off and due to us loosing our booking our project put back a week, not to mention having to live around the mess they had left for the weekend. What was a defining and exciting part of our renovation became a very stressful, nightmare. All that was necessary was for us to be informed if it was not possible to install the beam on that day, if Banks had been upfront and honest with us we could have communicated with our other contractors earlier and saved everyone a lot of time, stress, hassle and money. This experience occurred due to poor management and communication, by which this company has let us down terribly and probably most importantly let themselves down.
