Our mission is focused around three complementary objectives:
1. To underpin the New Zealand pastoral sector's sustainability and profitability
2. To establish a range of biotechnologies and systems in New Zealand
3. To export AgResearch biotechnologies and systems where appropriate
These objectives are fundamental to the AgResearch charter and reflect the fact that New Zealand has depended upon the pastoral sector for the majority of its export earnings for over a century. There is every reason to believe that the importance of the sector will remain.
The AgResearch mission is to apply the depth of experience and expertise it has in every aspect of pastoral farming and also in biotechnology to continue to build substantial competitive advantage throughout the value chain.
We will apply our expertise in biosciences and genetics to improve productivity and market success from forage to the supermarket shelf. The outputs of those endeavours will directly benefit farmers, agribusiness and those involved in the food and health sectors.
There will be times when we are directly involved in innovation through subsidiaries such as AgVax and Grasslanz but AgResearch exists to create wealth for New Zealand by helping the pastoral and biotechnology sectors. It also transfers intellectual property to New Zealand farmers and businesses for their benefit and that of New Zealanders and the New Zealand economy generally.
Our mission will be to seek areas of common interest and opportunities for investment and cooperation where pooling of resources promises faster and better results than would occur otherwise. We aim to support pastoral farming that is not just highly profitable but sustainable - where for a given unit of effort more economic value is created yet with a smaller environmental footprint.
Our Vision
To be the world's foremost pastoral sector R&D organisation. We are the engine of the pastoral sector R&D organisation.
