23rd October 2012 The only good thing about this cafe was the location. I ordered the Mondo's breakfast asking for no mushrooms specifying I'm allergic, surprise surprise there was mushrooms. When I asked that it go back to the kitchen the server rolled his eyes and pushed mushrooms off with his fork leaving mushroom sauce and juice all over the rest of the food. The toast was thick and dry with nothing on it, sausage tasted old, inedible.
Our order was mixed up with 2 other orders and the table had spilled drink and crusts from the previous people, after 10 minutes and asking 3 times the table was eventually wiped down.
Expensive for such poor quality food and service.

11th September 2012 I went to Mondo's cafe at the Basin for the first time in a couple of years. The last time I went, my husband and I had a really awful meal. Since then I have only heard bad reports and haven't been tempted to go there. We decided to go for the simple reason that it wasn't as busy as the two other cafes at the basin and we needed food quickly. We found the atmosphere uninviting and the service below average.
The food was very average. There are a bunch of really great cafes in Whangarei and Mondo's should go and check them out and get some good ideas to bring home. When I visited Whangarei in 2004, Mondo's was a vibrant and delicious cafe. It has the best location and it is a shame to see the service and food just isn't up to scratch. Shame as it has loads of potential. I hope things improve for them because it is a shame to see it struggle.
