8th December 2014 Extremely disappointed. At first I was excited to see vegetarian options, but then we were informed by the staff that everything was cooked in beef fat - ahhh, that means it cannot be vegetarian then. Either they're ignorant or they don't care that they're giving people falsely advertised food. We only found out they use beef fat by asking, it's not posted anywhere. Please Akaroa Fish & Chips - either set aside a fryer for using vegetable oil only or take the word 'vegetarian' off your menu!

2nd February 2013 I've had some rude service before, but holy cow.
I'd like to apologize to the staff, for ruining their day by attempting to place an order at their business. I'm so sorry that we drove all the way from Christchurch, rudely interrupting their in-crowd banter and expecting some friendly local service. So sorry for expecting something other than the surly, uninterested owner who after staring blankly at us, slammed down our change on the front counter without a word (other than "Nope. No blue cod". Forgive us, for assuming the cook would call out the order number given to us, who instead dumped the greasy parcel on the front counter for us to figure out, by powers of forensic deduction to whom it belonged. We pledge from this day forth, to never again hold such unreal expectations of polite, efficient customer service. The food - ah yes... Prepare to be underwhelmed beneath your wildest dreams; fish that could have been from Mission Bay, Auckland and chips fried within an inch of their life. I don't know if the average food was downplayed by the shocking service, or if it really was just mediocre; either way, if you're looking for an locally authentic, simple beachside meal of a Kiwi classic, sadly you have wasted a tank of gas and seventeen dollars. The place did burn down recently, but the business is obviously turning an amazing profit, as they simply do not need your patronage to support it.

6th September 2008 Not good, dry tasteless fish definitly not fresh, soft leathery chips. This used to be a good shop but has obviously changed hands and the quality has gone through the floor. Come on Akaroa fish and chips time to buck up your ideas. I have also posted a review at http://www.finda.co.nz/business/listing/5x9g/akaroa-fish-chips/
