Netherfield Lavender was originally established by Nick & Christina Hoogeveen on their 7.5ha property in 2000 in order to develop a new and unique business for the region. This became a challenge that the whole family could be involved in to learn all parts of this business. From establishing the field, designing and establishing the distilling plant, inventing the specialised harvester to developing products, marketing systems and securing customers. Netherfield is a member of the New Zealand Lavender Growers' Association, an association formed in 1995 to promote production of Lavender in New Zealand. The association has worked to establish quality standards for oil produced from various cultivars of lavender and lavandin throughout New Zealand
