5th March 2013 I just came from Briscoes in 65 Chapel St., 5-3-2013, where I tried to return an electronic bathroom scale they sold me with the reference number 14602829, that eventually refused to work even after having its battery replaced.
I bought the bathroom scale during one of their advertised specials for as little as $10, but no matter about that little value of my purchase, the man taking charge of the shop, and saying to have worked in it for more than 10 years, reckons to have never seen that bathroom scale for sale in the shop, and refused to accept my word of having bought the bathroom scale there, because of me having no receipt of proof.
I don't know of anyone who had saved a $10 receipt for a few months to avoid being accused of lying, but just imagine your chances in trying for a really valuable reimbursement of a failed purchase, with the shop employees expecting you to do their job of proving the article sold, or not sold by them.
